Food, glorious food... done my way. Pretence of perfection

Milk Chocolate and (runny) Caramel Tart

Now obviously you can spend hours making a cake look good and make it turn out properly.

But that's just boring, I've used this excuse said this before: I need something more! If you want cake perfection you're frankly in the wrong place (try here).

How I measure cakes:
Was it all eaten: Check.
Number of proposals: One.
Number of people who laugh at my efforts: 1,824 and counting (I was number 2, after God butted in with a few wise cracks!)

Obviously, this being mid "summer" in England the temperature was an unbelievable tepid 14C. So you can understand why the caramel was running.

And another thing, I think people who decorate their cakes are insecure. Seriously! I mean covering it in half moons of icing sugar... what are you looking for? Marriage proposals or something??!!

Yep, that is yet more milk chocolate bits in the mousse. I know how to please an audience.

So there it is. No need to pretend to be polite and inquire about the recipe.

Yes, I have spoons... oi! Put the spatula down, there enough for everyone!
Form a QUEUE!

tut... animals...

Yeah, why do people decorate like that I wonder? Beats me, but oh well, I guess some people aren´t naturals like yourself, so they have to work harder and use powdered sugar to get marriage proposals.

So, a spring wedding then?

Oh wow...I really like the runny caramel layer. Gives it quite some character...

Beats me why all that fancy stuff. Yours is sensational without the snazzy decoration. So where was that spatula I put?

Marce LOL!

I decorate, I do, I can't help myself. Why? 'Cause I like pretty!!!!!

I like the oozy caramel though, and it'll still taste as good :)

You, Sir, are simply fishing for compliments! You know perfectly well that runny caramel is beyond luscious and decadent. You know full well that the milk chocolate bits in your tart would tempt a saint. And you know full well that your tart is wonderful.

If it weren't obvious that you've already said yes to at least 10 marriage proposals, I'd propose too!

P.S. I like the half moon!

Where's my spoon..why do I have to stand in line...I want some of the gooey caramel. Great post!

That caramel color is to die for...can I be the flower girl if I promise not to guild the lillies?!!

Your way to measure how good a cake is (with exception to the laughing at you) is perfect! It's not how it looks, it's how it tastes!

Now, that's an invention; stracciatella chocolate mousse. Dip my hat (into gooey caramel please) and bow!

Heh. Decorations are for losers. Who needs 'em anyway?

Mark! Great job. I love the runny caramel. It just makes the dessert more decadent...! At least you can hope for proposals.. my wife threatens divorce...!! :)

Oh that did make me giggle! What a laugh, being 14C you're right it would make the caramel melt. Why didn't I think of that excuse being a little further South it was at least 18C...

i hate you so hard right now...

Even though it was a pain in the neck for you, the runny caramel is mouthwatering, I have to say! :)

Actually, I like the runniness of your caramel layer! Makes it look so ooey gooey :)

This looks like something you could steal away with and dig into with a spoon when nobody is looking.

I struggle with the perfection thing myself - I want to make my desserts look more perfect, but there is just something appealing about something that is obviously homemade and imperfect!

hmmm, you're not the only one to have received a proposal. Must be some unknown side effect of this tart.

I too had the runny caramel...but it still tasted good.

Loved your write up, and the runny caramel, too!

I never laugh at yummy looking (runny, ooei, gooie) caramel tarts!
Yes form a queue, it is that good.

Any spoons left? I love runny caramel!
So what's the new tally on the marriage proposal count?

Great post!

Love your write-up. I am glad everyone enjoyed it. The oozy caramel is a delight to the eyes and to the taste. A side note my son is studying archeological mysteries in middle school and one of them is lines of Nazca in Peru. Perhaps you are familiar with them? Wendy

I'm with you...oozy caramel needs no decoration.

Mark, you crack me up!!

And as for perfection, now why would anyone want that in a spouse when they can have humour and baking skills like yours!!!

So, does that mean I have to stand in line behind all the rest of my fellow DBers who've proposed to you? ;-)

Breadchick, don't be silly, there's no queue! I'm simply going to marry the opne who makes the best breakfasts :-D
